Rojelio Almaguer

| Rojelio is the oldest of the 2nd group of kids our parents
had. The first group were Jose, Olga, Carlos and Maria
Elena. Then they took a break on having kids. After about 4
years they started again. They had Rojelio, Dora and Me.
Rojelio was different from me and Dora. He had more in common with the older kids in the family. Dora and I were in a big hurry to leave Eagle Pass and he was content staying there. When he was at the Robert E. Lee school, Mom use to pack him bologna sandwiches for lunch. He hated that so he would trade his sandwiches for tacos at school. |

This was taken in front of our house on King Arthur St. The bicycle had been in our family for about 10 years. It was bought by my parents for Jose when he was about 12 years old. The street use to be caliche and gravel. when it rained is would turn into a sticky mess. You couldn't ride a bike cause the wheels wouldn't turn. That street was our football, baseball and soccer field. | |

| My Dad bought Rojelio this 75cc Suzuki motorcycle
while we were in Montana. It was a lot of fun riding it in
Colorado. There were lots of dirt roads and no police. In
Eagle Pass you had to watch out for the Police since we didn't have a
drivers license.

After Olga died, Marie Elena took Rojelio under her wing. She bought him the suit and got him to start going to dances.

Check out the Chubby Checker look. Rojelio was
starting to mature and was ready to chase girls. Olga was his
mentor during these days. The picture is probably from 1969.

This two pictures were take at Maria Elena's wedding. Rojelio was an escort for Mague Cantu. She was very pretty and Rojelio danced all night with her. If you look into his eyes you can see little hearts floating around. :)

He graduated from Eagle Pass High School in 1974. He went to Texas A&I for a semester and then moved back home. He kept going to the Sul Ross extension there in Eagle Pas and got his B.A. degree. |

Here he is with Mom, dancing at his wedding. He has the Tom Jones look. |
That's not a very happy face. |

Rojelio had a 1971 Camaro that Maria Elena gave him when he was 17 years old. That was the car he drove while in High School. It was cool. He had an 8-track player in the glove box and two huge box speakers in the backseat. He was our ride to Piedras Negras on the weekends, but he made us give him money for gas. We were a little to rowdy and loud for him, so he would tell us to behave or he wouldn't take us any more. Of course no matter how out of hand we got he would take us again the next weekend. I am sure he still remembers the "ranita" or hearing "Pero Roje, tu no me trujiste!" He would drop us off at the corner where we hung out and then leave. Sometimes he would come by and stay for a while. We would take the speaker out of the car and put them on the roof and crank up the 8-track player. He never wore his hair long and was never into the raggedy jeans or army shirts. Rojelio liked Mexican music and some of the mellow song in English. He never got into the real rock and roll head banging music. I think my beer drinking and smoking really bothered him. For a few years we didn't get along to well. We were to different. After I got married we were able to get along better. I guess I settled down some.
